Essay on Role Reversal in William Shakespeare’s Play Macbeth

William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth has a few main themes, one of which is role reversal. Macbeth is portrayed as a strong, fierce, and trustworthy soldier. At this stage in the story he had a conscience, and had a boundary between good and bad. However, Lady Macbeth is depicted as a devious and an extreme organizer, without a good sense of what is right and wrong. She would do anything in order to obtain supreme authority. Gradually they both change their views of power, treatment of one another, and their reactions to the murders and prophecies. Both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth exchange views on power and organization over each other. At first Lady Macbeth seemed to control Macbeth in every way. â€Å"†¦look like the innocent flower, but be the†¦show more content†¦Although Macbeth did not approve of the killing at first, as King, he has exchanged views. Similarly he told his wife to do the same. â€Å"Be innocent of the knowledge, dearest chuck†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Macbeth is now taking charge and telling Lady Macbeth to act innocent at Banquo’s death, just as she did before Duncan was murdered. As power was transferred to another, the treatment of one another was also transformed. At first Macbeth regard to Lady Macbeth was equality. â€Å"My dearest partner of greatness†¦Ã¢â‚¬ He viewed her as an equal partner in the relationship. However, Lady Macbeth did not have the same opinion, she saw him as a softy. â€Å"†¦yet do I fear thy nature; It is too full o the milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way:† She sees him as a mama’s boy, who was breast fed too long, which has made him spineless. He is too nice to find and use the quickest path to his foretold f uture of becoming king. Likewise, Lady Macbeth also jeers at Macbeth. â€Å"And live a coward in thine own esteem, Letting I dare not wait upon I would, Like the poor cat i the adage?† Lady Macbeth compares Macbeth to a cat that is too afraid and cowardly to get what he wants. The Tip of the Iceberg JP Morgan Chase and Bear Stearns Term Paper

Essays on The Tip of the Iceberg: JP Morgan Chase and Bear Stearns Term Paper The paper "The Tip of the Iceberg: JP Morgan Chase and Bear Stearns" is a brilliant example of a term paper on finance and accounting. Bear Stearns -The company was founded in 1923 as an investment bank. In early 2008, it was considered the largest bank in the United States. The company had been taking big risks in pursuit of big profits. The Bear operating environment included capital market, global clearing services as well as wealth management. Mortgage-related securities formed the largest part bear’s balance sheet. Bear was also one of the leading underwriters of US mortgage-backed securities during the period of 2004-2007 (Mody 100)As an investment bank, Bear did not direct access to the Federal Reserve discount window unlike commercial banks thereby forcing the bank to depend solely on the market for its liquidity and funding. The activities were financed with long term debt, equity and financing collateralized with securities from bear’s inventory (Mody 150). Th is forced the firm to constantly hold an inventory of securities that were collateral for short term borrowing agreements know as repurchase agreement (repos). The repos lenders were mainly institutions with excess cash seeking to earn high returns on their excess liquid overnight. The repos lender enjoyed protection based on the creditworthiness of the borrower and the quality of their underlying asset that secured the loan. These assets included high-quality assets such as mortgage back securities and US treasury securities. The bear had large liability in its balance sheet as repos borrowing and long term debt (Davidoff 120)The US financial market problems started in the year 2007 then reached an unprecedented level in 2008 mainly in the US housing market. This was because mortgages and home equity loans were packed and sold in securities that were to be sold as invests. The downward pressure of housing prices had a catastrophic effect and caused a lot of panic in the US financia l market. The subprime crisis began when the two Bears hedge funds collapsed. The prime brokerage was also a factor as Bears and other banks provided financing to hedge funds and held these funds as securities for safekeeping even though the securities were the property of hedge funds and not prime brokerage (Greenberg Singer 38). Bear Stearns Asset Management high-grade structured credit strategies fund and High-Grade structured Credit Strategies Enhanced Leverage fund had invested heavily in illiquid CDS tied to backed securities. Bears decided to offload the troubled mortgage securities using a new company called Everquest Financial even though the project was unsuccessful as many investors were unwilling to trade in the IPO, therefore, the initiative was canceled. To that effect, the investor started asking their money back especially after concerned were raised about Bear’s Fund performance Report. The funds decided to sell their assets so as to meet the financial oblig ation of the investor. This causes downward pressure on the value of their holdings (Ferrell, Fraedrich Ferrell 78).In the housing market, the prices of houses started to depreciate as many house owners decide to foreclosure the house and look for alternatives. Raising the default rate reduced the value of mortgage-backed securities as results many institutional investors were unwilling to hold securities with the evident risk of being unsafe (Grant 90). The absence of a liquid trading market for these securities forced the investors to seek a bid for their securities from commercial banks and investment banks that created and sold to them. This forced the banks to mark the price down at which they will buy them at a given price. The marking down of the price resulted in a vicious circle. This culminated in downward prices of the bonds in return causing the investor in a hurry of selling them at even more downward prices. This forced the Bear Bank to accumulate a large number of in ventories of these securities which were valued at a lower price as a result of economic pressure and pressure from an investor to exit their position (Davidoff 120).To serve the US financial market from free fall the Federal Reserve decided to use JP Morgan to acquire Bears Investment Bank within 24 hours with $2 per share but later adjusted it to $10 per share after complaints from the employee. The Federal Reserve provided JP Morgan with $30billion to backstop any loss JP Morgan Chase bank may incur on Bear’s liquid assets (Greenberg Singer 45).

Accepting and Being Who You Are Essay Example For Students

Accepting and Being Who You Are Essay E. E. Cummings once said â€Å"it takes courage to grow up and become who you really are. † Nowadays, teenagers face a lot of problems; piles of homework and exams, family stress, and friendship problems. But I think the biggest problem of teenage life is having a hard time accepting who you are. Let me tell you a little bit story of my life. The story begins in kindergarten when I remember I asked, actually begged my mom to buy me roller skate shoes because a lot of my friends wore that and I wanted to be as cool as them. Eventually, the problem continued until primary school. I had a good friend and one day, she caused troubles and people started talking behind her back. I didn’t know what to do; should I stay by her side or gossip about her too? Being a kid I am, I chose the latter. Why? I had to do a wrong thing because I wanted other people to accept me so badly. But I could honestly said, three years I spend on secondary school was the worst. I looked at people around me and I kept on thinking to myself â€Å"why are they so pretty? † or â€Å"why do they have nice bodies? † These little thoughts gathered around my head every day. You see, when you start to point out your flaws one by one, you will eventually dislike yourself or even worse, hate yourself, which happened to me. The urge to be desperately liked by everyone else left me feeling empty. However, I made a dramatic internal shift in high school. Because of a newfound faith, I felt that I had a responsibility to begin living my life in a way that reflected who I really was. Small decision by decision, I began to act with the courage to be me. I began to do things that I love such as theatre or swimming and my life is on the right path. And today, I’m standing here telling you the importance of being who you are. Think about a flower garden. It is beautiful because there are many kinds of flowers; white lilies, red roses, pink tulips, and so on. If there is only one kind of flower, the garden will be boring. The same goes for all of you. If you are the same as other people surround you, how would you differentiate others? In order to be yourself, you must grow a backbone and have thick skin. No one knows what makes you truly need to be happy other than yourself. This is an important concept to realize because you will never please yourself if you are constantly trying to please other people instead. You need to stand up for what you believe in and try to express your uniqueness daily. For example, now I have a habit of taking close-up pictures. It might look silly and weird, but there’s nothing wrong with being who I am. Second of all, have confidence. One thing that I’ve learned in the past 15 years I have lived is that there will always be those people who try to look down on you. Try not to worry about them and keep your chin up! One way is to smile. It improves on how you look and will boost your happiness. Lastly, it’s important to love yourself unconditionally because if you don’t, you will never have motivation to do things your heart desire. You don’t want to follow other people’s path and not be content at the end, do you? So remember, it doesn’t matter if some people think you’re crazy when you first begin putting your soul on display. As long as you are happy because you are doing what you love, everything else will soon fall into place. Just be yourself, that is all you need.

Boeing Essays - Boeing 747, Airliners, Boeing 707, Boeing

Boeing The Boeing 700's are very capable of handling duties in the commercial and military world. The Boeing 700's are capable of handling many tasks in the commercial and military world. With the introduction of the 707 in the late fifties to the most recent 777 in the early nineties the, 700's have dominated the commercial world for five decades. They are a line of aircraft that are capable of handling many roles from basic civilian transport to various military needs. They are the people movers of the 20th century. Each with a large carrying capacity combined with the range of a jet aircraft they have moved more people longer distances than what was once thought possible. Boeing has truly produced some of the greatest aircraft in history. The various duties that the 700's perform are quite extraordinary. It all started in the fifties. There was a growing demand for a commercial airliner that could move a greater number of people farther and faster. The age of the jet engine still had not reached to civilian transportation. There was still a fear of the jet because of lack of reliability, but with the advancement of technology the jet engine now had become more even reliable than the piston engine. The need for a jet engine powered plane was growing. Airlines still were looking for a plane that could cross the Atlantic Ocean without a refueling stop. The Lockheed Super Connies, a piston powered plane, were able to cross the Atlantic Ocean with out stopping on the eastbound leg, but they had to stop in Gander, Newfoundland to refuel on the westbound leg. The airlines desired a plane that could easily travel the Atlantic with out a stop. The piston engine just wasn't going to do it, the jet engine was the answer to the question. Boeing realized this and moved to look for a design for a jet powered plane. At first Boeing was looking to modify existing aircraft with jet engines to perform the tasks. They quickly realized that they needed a whole new aircraft. The Boeing 707 was born. The first Boeing 707 was delivered to Pan America airlines in May of 1958 (Bauer, 218). Sales started out slow in fact the 707 almost died many times in it's first couple years of existence. It wasn't until Boeing modified the 707 by increasing the overall length, the wing span, and adding more powerful engines did the 707 confirm its place in as a commercial transporter. With the new modifications the 707 became a very capable aircraft, crossing the Atlantic Ocean became a routine affair. With the introduction of the 707 transatlantic travel doubled in two years (Bauer, 195). Airlines' profitability soared due to the new capabilities of the 707 presented. The 707 began a new era and improved the way people are flown. The 707 being the first major jet airliner saw many applications and variations in it's lifetime. There were thirteen variations of the 707, they varied in capacity, range, and speed (Wright,49). Each variation was designed to meet a specific needs of an individual airline. Some 707's could carry a larger capacity of passengers over a shorter distance, were as another variant could carry fewer passengers over a longer distance. With all of these variations the 707 left little room for the Douglas DC-8 which was once though to be a major treat to Boeing. The 707 could meet any need of an airline; this is one reason that made the 707 such a versatile aircraft and why it dominated the market. The 707 also saw plenty of action in uniform. It's most useful application came in the way of the KC-135 Stratotanker. It was modified to perform in-flight refueling task for the United States Air Force. The 707 saw a healthy lifespan as the KC-135, of the 735 units build in the early sixties 550 still remain in service today (www.Boeing.com). The 707 also had the very privileged role of presidential transport. As Air Force One it started its career in 1962 and served seven Presidents. It was only to be replace by one of it's bigger brothers the Boeing 747. Another of one of it's more interesting applications was that of the "Vomet Come" a modified KC-135 to make large in-flight arcs to provide a weightless environment to train NASA astronauts. Altogether the 707 and its derivatives saw many varied and interesting applications. With the 707 fulfilling the needs for a long range jetliner there was a demand by the airline industry for
